Welcome to Year 5T and 5W
Dear parents and Carers,
We are absolutely delighted to welcome you and all the children to Year 5. It's going to be a fantastic year filled with exciting learning opportunities, memorable experiences and lots of fun.
PE is taking place on a Thursday this half term. Children need to come to school wearing their school PE kit on these days. If your child cannot remove their own earrings please make sure they are not worn to school on a Thursday. Long hair should be tied up on these days.
5T are also going swimming on a Monday afternoon. 5W will be going swimming from February onwards.
All children have a login for Edshed. This is where they will find their weekly spelling and maths homework. Spellings will be send home on a Monday and tested in school on a Friday.
TT Rockstars should also be used regularly at home.
All children are expected to be reading 5 times in a week. Reading diaries need to be signed and bought in to school everyday.

On Friday 2nd October the theme of our awards was :
Responsible learners
Well done to Harshida from 5W and Mishael from 5T for being this weeks well deserved champions.
Well done to Iowanna 5T for also being awarded an 'Act of Kindness' certificate for showing kindness and compassion to other children.
Arianna 5W and Ugona 5T were this weeks TTRS champions and both received a certificate.
5T were also awarded the attendance cup for having the highest attendance across the school last week.
What's coming up?
We have some amazing things planned for this year. Details will be shared with you before things happen - so keep an eye out!
This Term's Learning Focus
History: This term we will be learning all about the Ancient Greeks. In our DT lessons we will be tasting and making Greek Food.
Guided Reading
Our focus book is 'Who let the Gods Out?' Through this text, children will develop the skills of retrieval, inference, prediction, explaining and summarising.
In our Guided Reading sessions we have enjoyed reading using echo and choral reading strategies.
Maths
We will be working on key areas including:
- Place Value
- Multiplication and division
Science
Our science topic this term is:
- Forces
DT
In DT we will be learning all about Greek food. We will be tasting different foods and cooking a variety of Greek dishes.
PE
In PE we are working on Athletics and in 5T we are going swimming lessons.
Workshop and Special Events
On Wednesday 16th September Year 5 took part in a Road Safety Workshop. The children learnt all about how to keep themselves safe when out and about - particularly near roads and traffic. They then went outside to look for dangers and learn more about staying save whilst outside.
NEW COMEPTITION
In assembly 18.9.26 all the children were told about a new competition we are launching. We are encouraging all children to log in and use TT Rockstars regularly. Each week there will an award for effort, achievement or progress linked to TT Rockstars. Please encourage your child to log in and get involved.
GREEK FOOD TASTING
. On Friday 18th September children took part in a Greek Food tasting afternoon. The children tasted figs, feta cheese, pitta bread and olives. Each food was evaluated for appearance, smell, texture and taste. Everybody enjoyed the afternoon and many children tried foods they had not even eaten before. Some children even discovered a new favourite food!
