Reminders

Just a few reminders for the week:

PE is on a Monday afternoon - children need to have their kit in school to change into including a different pair of shoes to wear. Earrings need to be removed by the child or before school, we are not allowed to help with this.

Homework has been set on edshed. There is a maths quiz and spelling games set to be completed every week. Children should know their logins and these have been sent home.

What have we been learning about this week?

This week we are continuing to look at place value in maths. This is the value of each digit in a number for instance recognising that the 4 in 465 is equal to 400 not 4. We will be learning to round to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 by looking at the next column.

We are starting a new unit in Literacy learning about newspaper reports. We will be identifying features and learning about their purpose.

In Science we are going to be starting an investigation into the local area and the wildlife.

In History we will be learning about the Cheddar Man who is a Mesolithic man who was found in Cheddar Gorge. Interestingly, it is believed that he was black.

Next week

In Maths we will be moving on to addition and subtraction developing our mental maths skills as well as using more formal methods such as the column method with and without exchanges.

In Literacy we will be continuing to looking at newspaper reports and trying to use the features to write our own as well as looking at conjunctions and identifying the best choice to make compound sentences.

In Science we will be moves on to states of matter, identifying the difference between gases, liquids and solids.

Forest School

Every Thursday one of the Year 4 classes visits Ghost Woods to experience Forest School. We walk there and get the chance to explore and have the freedom to choose our activities. The swing is a popular activity as is building a mud kitchen and making a range of items out of wood.
